LEDO Kenya, in partnership with the local community of Narot village in Lokichogio, Turkana West, launched a giving model rooted in what people have: goats. For every goat a parent gives, LEDO matches it with two. Together, we fund the construction of a classroom for a new public school, Lokirieret School, which currently serves nursery and Grade 1 pupils under one TSC teacher.
Learners have long gathered under trees to learn; without classrooms, without desks, and without toilets. Now, a classroom is going up, and right beside it, something just as life changing: a four-door pit latrine, the first proper toilet facility in the entire area that will serve learners, teachers, and the entire community.
This initiative recently caught the attention of national media, highlighting the resilience and dignity of Turkana families who are giving what they have to create lasting change. The story is not just about goats or buildings, it’s about hope, ownership, and the belief that every child deserves a solid place to dream and learn. When parents give a goat, they are saying, “I believe in my child’s future.” When LEDO Kenya matches that goat, we are saying, “We are building that future together.” The classroom and toilet are already under construction. And with every goat added, another structure rises strong, rooted in unity, and filled with promise.
